The Olympian gods, Europe, 19th-20th centuries Folded fan, the double fabric sheet painted in the 19th-century style of the Olympian gods. In the center, Venus and Athena are surrounded by lovers symbolizing the four seasons. On the sides, Time in the guise of an old man, and Abundance in the guise of a young woman. Reverse painted with brown and gold foliage. 20th century Rare ivory mount, very finely pierced and painted in miniature. France, circa 1863 The subjects are treated in the neo-Gothic taste, with references to the work of illuminators. Two are signed and dated by the painter "Edouard Moreau63 ". The plumes are richly embellished with four large colored enamel plates, some on silver paillons, in the Limoges taste, decorated with loves, Flora, chimera, birds and trophies. This work corresponds to that of the fan mounts of the Félix Alexandre firm, supplier to Empress Eugénie, and of which Edouard Moreau (1825-1878) was one of the regular painters. Height 30 cm - H.f. 14.5 cm (accidents, missing parts, restorations) N.B.: this fan was previously sold by Christie's in London in 1998, lot 47.
