Moses Saved from the Waters, Europe, circa 1850 Folded fan, the double sheet of painted paper of Moses being rescued by a servant girl at the request of the Queen of Egypt, who is standing on the shore. To right and left, landscapes evoking Arcadia. The reverse is painted with four scenes in a mountainous landscape. One shows a rider falling into a crevasse. Perhaps an illustration from a legend or novel? White mother-of-pearl frame, richly beaded, engraved and gilded with scrolling foliage and flowers, framing a couple of shepherds whose wife is shearing a sheep. H.t. 28 cm-W.H. 9.5 cm (wear, restorations)
