Le double mariage des infantes d'Espagne, France, circa 1846 Folded fan, historical souvenir, double sheet of lithographed and gouache-painted paper Terpsichore, France, circa 1850 Folded fan, double sheet of lithographed and embellished paper of the muse Sappho, her lyre in hand, atop the Hill of the Muses in Athens, attracting curious onlookers and artists as well as Oriental and Italian representatives (Ciociaria). On the reverse, illustration of the double wedding celebration of the Infantes of Spain, daughters of King Ferdinand VII, on October 10, 1846 in Spain. Isabella II, Queen of Spain, married François d'Assise de Bourbon, while her sister Louise-Fernande married Antoine d'Orléans, Duc de Montpensier, son of the French King Louis-Philippe. This unprecedented event, known as the "Spanish marriages", had political consequences, with the rupture of the Entente Cordiale between France and England. Right: "Imprimerie Lemercier à Paris". The composition is based on a watercolor in the collections of the Domaine Royal de Randan (inv. Ass 2015-3). Bone mount, engraved and gilded with flowers and stylized foliage.
