La lavandière, France, circa 1770 Folded fan, the double gouache-painted paper sheet of a gallant couple in front of a trellis. They are framed by a peasant woman on a path, a fisherman and a washerwoman. The reverse is painted with a vase on a pedestal. When closed, the upper edge of the fan is decorated with flowers. Mounted in cut, pierced and engraved ivory, it is enhanced in color with a mirrored decoration of a couple and trophies. H.t. 27.5 cm-H.f. 12.5 cm (good condition)
