Portraits de l'être aimé, France, circa 1780 Folded fan, the double silk sheet painted with eight portraits of men and women, and heads of lovers. In the center, a gallant declares his love by offering a rose. On the sides, a singing couple, and a couple exchanging an oath. The motifs are embellished with sequins or chain stitch. The leaf features windows lined with gilded metallic tulle. The main subjects are repeated on the reverse. Mounted in cut, carved, engraved, burgundy, gilded and painted ivory, with portraits in medallions and a group of musicians in the center. Height 26.5 cm-H.f. 11.5 cm (accidents, restorations)
