Le couronnement de la rosière, France, circa 1780 Folded fan, the silk sheet adorned with two lateral cartels in color-printed silk. One after Fragonard's "La bonne mère", the other a scene of charity in a peasant interior. In the center, the village lord crowns a rosière, or virtuous young girl, with flowers. Wedgwood-style medallions on either side. The reverse is painted with a bouquet encircled by a garland of foliage. Mounted in finely pierced ivory, engraved and gilded with trophies and floral medallions. H.t. 28.4 cm-H.f. 13.5 cm (restorations, wear)
