Miroir sorcière, France, circa 1780 Folded, indiscreet fan, the silk leaf painted on a pekin ground with three cartels. In the center, a mother presents her child, who is being prepared by a chambermaid, in the company of a dog. Above them, an astonishing oval-shaped mirror is applied in a thick layer. On the sides, couples of lovers represent abundance, love and harmony. The reverse is painted with roses. Mounted in finely beaded, engraved and gilded ivory, with hunters in the center and hunting trophies. The fan retains a moiré silk ribbon closed by a wax seal bearing the letter "R".
