Juno commanding Aeolus, Europe, circa 1760 Folded fan, the sheet mounted in the English style and painted with Juno in majesty commanding Aeolus to unleash the winds on Aeneas, based on Antoine Coypel's work. Next to her are Zephyr and nymphs, including Déiopée, the most beautiful of all, whom she offers to thank him. The reverse is painted with peasants at the water's edge, against a backdrop of mountains. Rich, fine ivory mounting, carved and engraved with portraits in medallions, and couples in hearts. In the center, Zephyr crowns Flora with flowers. H.t. 26.8 cm-H.f. 13.2 cm (restorations)
