Pygmalion and Galatea, Europe, circa 1760 Folded wedding fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English, and painted in gouache of the sculptor Pygmalion facing the statue that comes to life and with which he had fallen in love. The composition is based on the work of Jean Pierre Norblin de La Gourdaine, after François Boucher. Rich border of flowers around the rim. The reverse is painted with a Chinese-style scene of a family enjoying the fruits of a garden. Fine ivory mount, cut, drilled, carved and engraved with small figures in medallions, birds, squirrels and flowers. In the center, a banquet scene evokes the meeting of Dido and Aeneas. The head is adorned with a brown tortoiseshell plaque. H.t. 29 cm-H.f. 14.5 cm (good condition, wear)
