The Beauty of Campaspe, Europe, circa 1730 Folded fan, the double sheet of gouache-painted paper of Alexander the Great entering Apelle's studio and discovering the beauty of Campaspe posing for the painter. The composition recalls the work of Nicolas Vleugels (1668-1737). The reverse is painted with a large bouquet of flowers, including roses and butterflies. Ivory frame decorated with figures in gigantic blue and white porcelain vases, and two vases in Chinese style. The reverse is painted with a bouquet of flowers in a basket on a blue background.
