VERMEIL SNUFFBOX. - Lot 415
VERMEIL SNUFFBOX. Cylindrical in shape, decorated on one side with a vermeil coin bearing the effigy of Empress Catherine II, wearing a helmet with a crest composed of an owl's head and a plume, and crowned with an oak tree signed Georges-Christian Waechter (1724-1789), in commemoration of her accession to the throne in 1762. The back of the snuffbox is engraved with a design of small undulating waves. Gold-lined interior. Time wear, but overall good condition. Title hallmark: Moscow, circa 1825. Goldsmith's hallmarks: illegible. H.: 2 cm - Diam.: 9.5 cm. Weight: 186 g
