SILVER AND VERMEIL SNUFFBOX. - Lot 414
SILVER AND VERMEIL SNUFFBOX. By KOMARNITSKY, Moscow, circa 1850. Cylindrical in shape, decorated in the center with a coin bearing the effigy of Emperor Paul I signed Carl Alexander Leberecht (1749-1827), undated [1796], a commemorative memento of his coronation, and on the reverse appears the cross of the Order of St. George, within a nielloed silver star surround. On the back of the snuffbox is a view of Falconet's sculpture of Peter the Great on horseback, built in St. Petersburg in niello silver. Gold-lined interior. Some wear and tear, but overall good condition. Title hallmark: Moscow, circa 1850. Goldsmith's hallmarks: G. K. (probably G. Komarnitsky), active from the 18th to the 19th century.
