Marseille, where he was appointed professor at the Académie de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1787. He played an active role in the city's artistic life until 1806, and claimed to have worked in "the principal towns of Languedoc and Provence".x001e_ A revolutionary and a member of the Jacobin Club, he showed great commitment in his actions and works: He was one of the fifty Marseillais who stormed the citadel of Notre-Dame de la Garde on the night of April 29 to 30, 1790, and delivered a series of projects extolling the Revolution._x001e_ He wrote in 1814 that "I'm a man of the people. Our bust demonstrates his great skill as a portraitist, of which other examples can be seen at Versailles, with three busts delivered to the State for the Salon des Maréchaux at the Tuileries: General Bon (inv. MV529), General Colbert (inv. MV511), and Admiral de La Touche Tréville (inv. MV651), all posthumous._x001e_ Documentary sources: - "Notes sur Charles Renaud statuaire" in Bulletin des Arts, October 10, 1846, pp. 144-146_x001e_ - P.-L.
