Large, oval, strongly convex intaglio engraved with a nude god Mercury, wearing the petasus, standing slightly stooped, holding the purse and caduceus. Around the edge, an inscription in Greek characters_x001e_: "_x001e_AKPOVPO... OPE_x001e_". The reverse is also engraved with a three-line inscription_x001e_:_x001e_"_x001e_AEIW / Lambda AI / EIWLambda A_x001e_". Amethyst. Chips on edge. Egyptian Roman art, Greco-Egyptian intaglio group, circa 1st century B.C. H. 2.9 cm. Reproduced in Collection d'Antiques, vol. V, pl. 82, nos. 3 and 4. The name Dubois-Aymé appears in the plate identified by the words "communiqué par M Dubois-Aymé".
