Ceremonial food dish Aire Boiken - Mounts - Lot 8
Ceremonial food dish Aire Boiken - Mounts Prince Alexander - Papua New Guinea Early 19th century Size: diameter 35 cm Carved wood Provenance Didier Zanette private collection French private collection A beautiful circular dish featuring superb engraved decoration. An anthropo-zoomorphic figure presenting two schematized faces, diamond-shaped, with intense expressivity rendered by the particularly meticulous treatment of the eyes. The two faces are linked by the same square body, decorated with curved lines and shapes. A frieze on the median axis, decorated with lozenges and circles, symbolically extends his gestures. Find out more about Christian Coiffier's Coiffier to illustrate the Galerie Didier Zanette exhibition Didier Zanette, devoted to Boiken dishes, and contributing to the study of their motifs, publications by Henry Aufenanger in 1970 and Helene Dennett in 1980. Nice patina.
