Le prénom de l'aimée, France and China, circa 1840-1850 Folded fan, the gouache-painted paper leaf of a shepherd engraving his beloved's first name on the trunk of a tree. A shepherd plays the flute next to him. Signed on the left. Wide border of gilded foliage and flowers. The reverse in painted skin with gilded scrolls, flowers and shells. White mother-of-pearl mount, cut, pierced, engraved and gilded with three couples. The reverse side engraved with the same design. China, circa 1750 Height 28.2 cm (wear, accident to one strand)
