Rare wooden icon-plate carved in high relief with a Crucifixion surrounded by scenes from the life of Christ. Inscriptions in Greek. Moulded silver and silver-gilt frame with clasps, Rococo period, 18th-century Venetian workshop. Label on back with handwritten indications: Venice, Sept 1829 - Colonade of St Marco, This specimen of Ancient Art, belonged to the very Noble Family of Casa Patrizia, still in Existence, but in reduced Obreumstances, their palace on the grand Canal. Byzantine Empire, Mount Athos, second half 14th / early 15th century H. 11.9 cm - W. 9.5 cm - Total H. 16.5 cm - Total W. 12 cm (a crack, some slight damage to the frame) A test using the carbon-14 method coupled with mass spectrometry was carried out by the Ciram laboratory in Bordeaux on January 11, 2022 and dates this plate between 1320 and 1359, with 37.2% probability, and between 1390 and 1430, with 58.2% probability.
