De Lorimier 1808 On verso on the original canvas, the inscription: Emile Alexandre Cesar / the son of S. M. P. le febure de Sancy / and A. J. A Beaudéan de Parabere Provenance: - Adélaïde-Julie-Amélie Lefébure de Sancy (1770-1825), née de Baudéan de Parabère, mother of the model, Château de Boran, Boran-sur- Oise; - galerie Laury-Bailly, Paris; - private collection, Osaka, Japan, acquired from the former in 1983. Born in 1775 into an old Parisian dress family, Henriette Lorimier grew up in a privileged environment familiar with the art world. She took part in the Salon from 1802 onwards, where she scored her first successes. La chèvre nourrice, a reduction of which appears in her self-portrait, was acquired by Princess Caroline Murat in 1804. Born in Paris on September 23, 1800, Emile-Alexandre-César Lefébure de Sancy (1800-1863) came from a long line of military men. After his return to civil status, he married Adélaïde-Julie-Amélie de Baudéan, granddaughter of the Comtesse de Parabère, the Regent's famous mistress. This union produced just one child, the model in our painting, orphaned at the age of one.
