JAPON, Période Momoyama/ Periode Edo, fin du XVIe-début du XVIIe siècle Rare Namban lacquer travel chest Of quadrangular form with domed lid, featuring rich decoration in hira-maki-e and taka-maki-e gold lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlays, on a glossy black ground, of a pair of pheasants among prunus branches and peonies in bloom on the lid and front. The back is decorated with foliate scrolls. Mobile bronze side handles, added later on the sides. The chased ormolu angle irons and lock are decorated with foliate scrolls. It stands on an elegant Napoleon III-style Napoleon III style, with four scrolled legs and a geometric frieze and polychrome painted dragon motif, accompanied by gold-painted foliage and mother-of-pearl inlays.
