Donatien NONNOTTE (1708-1785) - Lot 243
Donatien NONNOTTE (1708-1785) Presumed portrait of Charlotte-Frederike Sparre wearing a blue velvet dress trimmed with fur, surrounded by an ochre cape. Oil on canvas (lining) Height: 81.5 cm Width: 65 cm Signed and dated upper left Nonnotte pinxit 1746 (Some old restorations) The young Donatien Nonnotte left his native Burgundy for Paris Paris in 1728, where he studied under the aegis of the king's first painter, François Lemoyne (1688-1737). From then on, Nonnotte specialized in portraiture, a field in which he enjoyed great success throughout his career. Combining preciousness and elegance, our painting represents one of those highly sought-after female portraits, often of wives, dressed and coiffed in the latest fashion. Amateurs and collectors are particularly fond of the artist's ability to convey refinement and grace through the youthful ardor and restrained charm common to all his figures.
