TABLE SERVICE OF EMPEROR MAXIMILIAN OF MEXICO FOR HIS CHAPULTEPEC PALACE. By Christofle, Paris, 1863. Set of two silver-plated round presentation plates with scalloped rim and shell motif, engraved with the monogram MMI (Maximilian of Mexico Ier) under an imperial crown. Good condition. Goldsmith's hallmark: Christofle, n°40 (493998) and n°42 (4939989). Diameter: 25 cm History: the two pieces presented here are part of the service commissioned in 1863 and presented by Emperor Napoleon III to the young Emperor of Mexico, brother of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria. The service comprised 4938 pieces of silverware.
