D'APRÈS LOUIS-SIMON BOIZOT (1774-1809). - Lot 124
D'APRÈS LOUIS-SIMON BOIZOT (1774-1809). Madame Royale, known as l'enfant aux coussins. Cookie on a square base. French work from the early 20th century. Minor accidents, but overall good condition. H.: 23 cm - W.: 16 cm - D.: 18 cm History: This cookie subject is based on a work sculpted by Claude Michel dit Clodion (1738-1814) for the Manufacture de Sèvres in 1778 and modeled by Louis-Simon Boizot. It was originally sold in very small numbers, according to Pierre-Xavier Hans, of the Société des Amis de Versailles. The Manufacture's registers record only 5 examples, including one for King Louis XVI and another for Queen Marie-Antoinette. This cookie was reissued from 1881 onwards, and regularly until 1950, like the example we are presenting here.
