Officer's armchair forming a daybed with polished iron mecha - Lot 255
Officer's armchair forming a daybed with polished iron mechanism. Basket-handle back decorated with pine cones. It stands on six legs, four of which have castors. Blue leather upholstery. Early 19th century Height : 108 cm - Depth : 76 cm - Width : 81 cm At the end of the 18th century, mechanical locksmiths came up with the idea of creating armchairs that could be converted into a daybed. In fact, a real system of slides was set up so that, by simply pressing on the backrest, it could be pulled forward, transforming it into a chaise-longue. To facilitate this transformation, the main elements of the chair are mobile, hinged together by means of hinged pivots. Provenance Purchased November 8, 1990 from Mr. Hervieu, Annecy.
