CHINE, XIXe siècle Portrait of an ancestor Polychrome painting on silk, depicting a dignitary in bust form, wearing a red robe with mandarin square featuring a white phoenix soaring through the clouds, framed under glass. Bearing at top right the inscription "文天祥君玉尊聖像" (Wéntiānxiáng jūn yù zūn shèng xiàng), identifying the person portrayed as Wen Tianxiangjun, prime minister of the Southern Song dynasty and commander-in-chief of the Yuan dynasty volunteer army, as well as inscriptions and stamps at top left. 85 x 60.2 cm
