FORTIN (François). Les ruses innocentes... Paris, Etienne Charon pour Charles de Sercy, 1688. in-4, 8 ff, 444 pp, 12 pp, contemporary binding in speckled fawn calf, spine decorated with gilt motifs. Second edition of one of the most famous French hunting books. Illustrated with 62 (of 66) plates, included in the pagination, some folded. A fine copy, but incomplete with 4 plates (pp. 255-256 in facsimile, 421-422, 423-424, 425-426). Tear to 2 plates with trace of tape. A few handwritten notes in ink in the margins. Signature "Chandé" at bottom of title. Handwritten bookplate on flyleaf: "Monsieur le marquis de la Valette, seigneur de la terre de la Couarde, 1744". Binding skilfully restored. Thiébaud 408-409.
