52. Trave, Aroha (born 1985) - Lot 52
52. Trave, Aroha (born 1985) Cannon fodder, original plate Ink on paper 21 x 29.7 cm Aroha Travé was born in Terrassa, near Barcelona, in 1985. She has already enjoyed a long career in fanzines (Granos de pus, Pos) and Spanish comics magazines (El Vibora, El jueves, Voltio), as well as working as an assistant at La Cúpula publishing house. As a teenager, she was immersed in El Vibora, the magazine published by Editions La Cúpula, which published the best-known authors of the '80s (Miguel Gallardo, Jaime Martin, Maria Colino, Javier Mariscal, even Pedro Almodovar), as well as underground American authors (Robert Crumb, Trina Robbins, Gilbert Shelton, then the Hernandez brothers, Chester Brown and Peter Bagge), she has developed a highly expressive black-and-white drawing style, and has no qualms about talking about the darker sides of life with a very personal verve. Chair à canon, published by La Cúpula under the original title Carne de cañón, is her first comic book. It won her the 1st ACDCómic prize for best emerging author, as well as revelation prizes at Barcelona's Salón del Comic, Valencia's Salón del Cómic and Santa Cruz Cómic. She also illustrated the book El bicho que se devora a sí mismo ("The bug that devoured itself") by Ignatius Farray, and contributes to the online editions of the famous magazines El Jueves and El Vibora. In the latter, she recently began pre-publication of the second volume of Carne de Cañon, in which Yanira and Kilian, the main characters of the first volume, are now teenagers. Text © flblb
