18. CRITONE, Luigi (b. 1971) - Lot 18
18. CRITONE, Luigi (b. 1971) Le Scorpion, original plate reproduced on page 45 of Volume 14, La Tombe d'un Dieu (Editions Dargaud, 2022, based on a scenario by Stephen Desberg). Watercolor on paper. Signed. 49.7x38.6 cm Luigi Critone was born in 1971 in Sant'Arcangelo, Italy. He studied art in Rome before enrolling at the International School of Comics in Florence. After graduating, he worked in an illustration studio, cultivating his passion for comics. It was the Angoulême International Comics Festival that got him started: there he met publishers, scriptwriters and illustrators who guided him and helped him to perfect his skills. He presented projects to several publishing houses before Nicolas Jarry and France Richemond suggested "La Rose et la Croix" (Soleil), for which he drew the first two volumes (2005 and 2006). In 2008, he drew Volume 4 of "Sept" ("Seven Missionaries", Delcourt), scripted by Alain Ayroles. In 2011, he launched his career as a full-fledged author, publishing a three-volume adaptation of Jean Teulé's "Je, François Villon" (Delcourt). In 2020, he illustrated "Aldobrando" (Casterman), an initiation tale written by Gipi. The same year, he takes over drawing duties on the "Le Scorpion" series, created by Enrico Marini and Stephen Desberg. Luigi also teaches artistic anatomy and drawing at the Florence School of Comics. Text © Dargaud
