ALBERTO GIACOMETTI (1901-1966). Bird, commonly known as Albatross, the model designed around [1937]. Applique sculpture; bas-relief. Plaster. Early edition from the late 1930s; one of the earliest known proofs. Height: 46 cm - Length: 162 cm Restoration and cleaning; supervised by La Fondation Alberto Giacometti. Important information This work has been included in the artist's catalog raisonné and referenced in the Alberto Giacometti Database under number AGD 4576 by the Giacometti Foundation. A document from the Giacometti Foundation for the inclusion of this work in the artist's catalog raisonné and its referencing in the Alberto Giacometti Database will be given to the purchaser. Provenance and history : Jean and Violet Henson Collection (1894-1974) (1887-1971). Work most likely received as a gift from Jean-Michel Frank (cf. Jean Henson, A time for réflexion, éditions Somogy, Paris, 1949, page 194). Archive: A photocopy of an early photograph of the interior of Jean and Violet Henson's estate, featuring our sconce sculpture Oiseau by Alberto Giacometti, will be given to the purchaser.
