La fin du déluge, bonded-thread embroidery, Italy, 18th century, polychrome silk threads and metallic threads wax-bonded to cardboard, flesh tones painted in tempera on silk satin, cartel painted on paper of the verse from Genesis: Non igitur ultra percutiam omnen animam viventem, sicut feci, I will no longer strike everything that is alive as I have done. Embroiderer's initials on the bottom, AR. F. most probably for Andrea Rocchi, known for a set of collaged thread paintings commissioned by Queen Isabella Farnese of Spain, wife of Philip V, and kept in the Royal Palace of Saint Ildefonso, (rare small stains), 28.5 x 39.5 cm
