Imitation pink mother-of-pearl, circa 1890 Large folded fan, the leaf in spindle lace with flower decoration, enhanced with gold sequins, on a tulle background. Rare and astonishing frame in pink-tinted synthetic material, with iridescent effect imitating mother-of-pearl, the serpentine strands inlaid with gold sequins. H.t. 35 cm - H.f. 22.5 cm (good condition) N.B.: several patents protecting processes for the manufacture of synthetic materials were filed in the 1860s-1890s for the imitation of natural materials such as mother-of-pearl.
