Oliver Cromwell, France, circa 1850 Folded fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English style, and painted with gouache of a palace courtyard. A large assembly of courtiers, wearing costumes in the taste of the 17th century. Followed by a lackey holding a morocco, a man dressed in black, presumably Minister Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland after the execution of King Charles I. A "beefeater in green and red livery stands at the head of the staircase. The architecture in the background is reminiscent of the Buckingham royal residence. Reverse painted with a couple enjoying a park. White mother-of-pearl frame, cut, engraved and gilded in symmetry with two soldiers soldiers, flags, feathers, fruit and birds. H.t. 29.3 cm-H.f. 13.2 cm (wear, cuts, restorations)
