Tribute to Rossini, France, circa 1830 A rare folded fan, the double sheet made of engraved paper and enhanced with gouache. The composer Giovacchino Rossini (1792-1868) is depicted in the center, composing, his head girded with laurels. Renown presents a list of his successful operas. Two side scenes illustrate "The Barber of Seville" (1816) and "Mathilde de Sabran" (1821). On either side, scores and verses from "Torvaldo y Dorliska" and "Musica del Maestro Rossini". In the center, the legend "Paris Fabrica de abanicos de Fdo Coustellier & Cie" for "Paris fabrique d'éventail Ferdinand Coustellier et Compagnie". The reverse features a Madrid city gate with the Spanish legend "Vista de la puerta de Alcala una/ de los principales de Madrid". Mounted in reperced bone inlaid with steel flakes, the strands undulating. H.t. 22 cm-H.f. 12.5 cm (restorations, cuts, stains)
