George, Prince of Wales, future King of England, circa 1763 A rare folded fan, a historical souvenir, the double sheet in engraved paper, and die-cut in the canivets style. Abundance and Virtue personified are associated with the Golden Fleece and a sheaf of wheat. At the top, a ship flying the British flag. In the center, the Queen holds a child on her lap. The reverse features a long prayer in English, beneath the royal crown of England. "O God creator and preserver of all Mankind, be pleased to pour down on his Royal Highness George Prince of Wales (...). And may all the Sons and daughters of Britain with sincere Hearts and united Voice say, Amen". This fan probably commemorates the birth of the Prince of Wales, future King George IV, in 1763. Natural wood frame. The plumes are cut out. Height 28.8 cm-H.f. 14.3 cm (very good condition) N.B.: An identical fan is in the collections of The Fan Museum/ H. Alexander inv. 1353. See H.
