Pygmalion and Galatea, France, circa 1750 Folded fan, the skin sheet lined with paper and painted with gouache of the sculptor Pygmalion amazed to see his sculpture come to life under the aegis of Love. Love draws a sculpted bust on the right. Reverse painted with a soldier and a river woman. Cut-out white mother-of-pearl mounting, engraved with burgundy, silver and gold, and enhanced in color with loves, birds, butterflies and dancers. On the reverse, the motifs on the face are repeated with a red line. H.t. 30 cm-W.H. 13.5 cm (wear, restorations) ACCIDENT TO PLUME
