Mordecai, Europe, circa 1750 Folded fan, biblical subject, the skin sheet, mounted in English and painted in gouache from a large composition of the "Triumph of Mordecai" after the French painter Jean-François de Troy, exhibited at the Salon in Paris in 1740 (now in the Louvre). The composition originates from the cartoons for the hanging of the Story of Esther, and celebrates the victory of the Jews over their murderers (today's Purim festival). The reverse is painted with yellow and pink roses. Ivory frame painted with feathers, flowers and fruit, including grapes, pears and pomegranates. The plumes are pierced, carved and painted with a feather effect. H.t. 30.5 cm - H.f. 16.9 cm Weight 88 gr.
