Mark Antony, Europe, circa 1750 Folded fan, the gouache-painted skin sheet of Mark Antony meeting Cleopatra in her palace. Servants bustle around them. It is installed on a divan, leaning against a pedestal housing a cartouche with the inscription: "The tomb of Mark Antony". On the reverse, a couple in a country setting, he playing the flute, she reading a score. Mounted in pierced ivory, engraved and painted with garlands of flowers and four cartels featuring landscapes. Reversed ink on the face motifs.
