Agate, Europe, circa 1860 Luxury "marquise" folding parasol, lace top, Brussels gauze stitch, on black silk taffeta lined with silk pongee, cut-out "bavolines" shape. Ivory shaft, agate handle with gold rings and fine pearls. Pommel finished with an agate sphere crowned with gold and fine pearls. Matching parasol tip. Gold chain set with agate pearls, gold-lined agate clamping ring, silk ribbon bow. Bears the Paris manufacturer's mark "Verdier". Total length: 69 cm Eight whalebone whalebones, 26 cm Weight 366 gr (very good condition, slightly missing) All umbrellas and parasols containing ivory, whale baleen or rhinoceros horn are issued with an intra-Community certificate, or K permit, allowing them to circulate in Europe. These will be issued to purchasers.
