Ivory, Europe, circa 1860 Folding marquise umbrella, with "bavolines" cover in old rose silk, lined with pink silk pongee, and ivory bobbin lace top. Ivory mast, handle, "opera"-shaped pommel and tap-à-terre. Length 66 cm Eight whalebone ribs, 25 cm Weight 200 gr (restorations) All umbrellas and parasols containing ivory, whale baleen or rhinoceros horn are issued with an intra-Community certificate, or K permit, allowing them to circulate in Europe. These will be issued to purchasers.
