Umbrella frame, Europe, 17th century? Exceptional all-wood parasol frame. Eight 43 cm long strands on a turned wooden cane with a knob ending in a button. Turned runner on which the arms articulating the strands are mounted (the spring system was non-existent at the time). Total length 94 cm All umbrellas and parasols containing ivory, whale baleen or rhinoceros horn are issued with an intra-Community certificate, or K permit, allowing them to be circulated in Europe. These will be issued to purchasers. N.B.: This parasol frame is similar to a parasol belonging to Diane de Poitiers, with six strands and an identical mechanism. It is illustrated by Maurice Leloir, in "Les accessoires du costume. Parasols et parapluies", in Bulletin de la Société de l'Histoire du Costume, October 1908, no. 5, fig. 14. It was also mentioned in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts in 1879. Sold at Hôtel Drouot in 1922, with the Reiset collections, its current location is unknown.
