Button with wooden base and catgut by Julien-Ghislain Depest - Lot 162
Button with wooden base and catgut by Julien-Ghislain Depestre or de Pestre (1725-1774), manufacturer and supplier to the armies in the Austrian Netherlands, whose father, ennobled in 1744, had acquired a considerable fortune and settled in Brussels. Julien continued his ascent in the Cie des Indes trade, and in 1758 bought the Seneffe seigneury, where he built a sumptuous château. In 1768, he was created Count of Seneffe and Thurnout. In 1751, he married Isabelle-Claire Cogels (1727-1788), who remarried in a second marriage to Albert-Louis-Aymar Le Fournier. This button does not appear in the "Recueil des boutons armoriés des familles belges" (ca. 1770) [IX].
