Fish needle lace, Maison Lefébure, early 20th century. - Lot 415
Fish needle lace, Maison Lefébure, early 20th century. Circular shape with its embossed paper label ALF for Auguste Lefébure et Fils, pen reference and mention "Rond Argentan XXesiècle" on the front and "Ecole dentellière d'Argentan" on the reverse. A rare aquatic decoration with fish and stylized brown seaweed, well recognized with its small floats, from which rises a spiral of supple trumpet shapes adorned with varied stitches, the motifs linked by an Argentan network of wide scalloped meshes. Cream-colored cotton, horsehair partially present on the border picots. Diameter 15 cm (very good condition, very small orange dots). The Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Dentelle d'Alençon owns a collection of drawings by the Lefébure workshop, one page of which shows the design for this lace. Provenance sale on October 3, 1989, Lefébure collection, Ionesco study in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
