Long border in Alençon lace, needlepoint, France, circa 1860-80. In Alençon stitch, probably produced by the Alençon firm Huignard-Besnard, with a decoration typical of the period, of roses with hearts adorned with an eight-pointed star of St Esprit and eglantines grouped within foliage and leaflets, supported by a border of curved cartouches in various fashions and punctuated by two blooming roses with hearts adorned with small fashions, ivory-colored cotton, horsehair holding the border picots and certain motifs, wax seal at one end.
