Rare Binche bobbin lace border, circa 1680-1700. - Lot 219
Rare Binche bobbin lace border, circa 1680-1700. Light ivory-colored linen of great finesse and rare freshness of preservation. Densely patterned with mirrored compositions, baskets of stylized flowers and finely drawn fleurons in a series of square "Point de Fée" stitches, the background in places using snow stitch and partridge eye. Dim. 2.45 m x 8.5 cm (very good condition). We enclose four silver photos of the lace, accompanied by a handwritten letter from Les Amies de La Dentelle, dated March 21, 1913, thanking Mme. E. Goethals for the loan of this lace, which was shown to the assistant curator of the Cinquantenaire collection, who declared it "of the highest merit". Provenance: background of an Antwerp house.
