GALADZHEV Piotr Stepanovich (1900-1971). Constructivist montage and collage. Wood sculpture, signed on the reverse upper left with the artist's initials in Cyrillic script. Weathered, as is. H. 71 cm - L. 53.5 cm. Biography : artist, designer and actor, Piotr Stépanovitch Galadzhev was born in Staryj Krim in the Crimea. At the age of 9, he was accepted at the Stroganov Central Industrial Institute in Moscow, where he studied graphic art under Wladimir Favorsky. He then attended classes at the Studio of the Moscow Union for Workers' Artistic Education. In 1915, while still a teenager, he began working as an assistant designer at the Zimin Opera. In 1919 he created his first commercial collages, and in the early 1920s began working on dramatic ballets and cabaret productions that were often reproduced as covers or text illustrations in the key theatrical journals of the day, including "Ekho", "Antrakt", "Ermitazh", " Ekran Kino-Gazety" and "Vestnik Rabotnikov Iskusstv". In 1921 he met director Lev Kuleshov and enrolled in his courses at the State College of Cinematography. Galadzhev was also a member of the "Kuleshov Collective" or "Kuleshov Studio". Numerous retrospectives of his work were organized in Moscow in 1961 (where our work was shown for the first time) and 1971. In 1965, he was recognized as a Meritorious Artist of the Socialist Federative In 1971, he was awarded the USSR State Prize for his film "Au Lac". He died in Moscow the same year, aged 71.
