Charles-Albert-Edouard HAGER (Franckfort, 1857-Bruxelles, 1940) Two Rhinoceroses, one charging a crocodile Bronze group Signed A.HAGER/1916. Its original plaster painted in imitation of the bronze signed and dated A.HAGER/1916 is included. 16 x 42cm Of German origin, Hager settled in Uccle, near Brussels, and studied at the Académie de Saint-Gilles, where he became professor in 1893, then director in 1918. Little is known about his artistic life, and most of his works are undated. He concentrated his art on bronze animal sculpture. He was interested in their movements and liveliness, and conveyed great realism. He regularly participated in the triennial Salons de Bruxelles, international exhibitions of Belgian art (Berne 1926 and Copenhagen 1931), and the 1910 Exposition Universelle.
