Exceptional cabinet in European varnish in imitation of Chinese lacquer, opening to three wide leaves decorated with pierced rocks, flowering branches animated by birds and chrysanthemums, in red lacquer frames with pebbled decoration adorned with ribbon friezes, acanthus leaves and wide agraphes with rocaille foliage cartouches. Ebony veneered top and plinth. Regency period. Height 148 cm - Width 183.5 cm - Depth 48 cm (Restorations, some bronzes probably brought back) Our piece of furniture belongs to a small corpus of low lacquered cupboards, from China and European varnish: a similar pair from the sale of Madame André Saint's collection, Maître Ader sale, May 20, 21 1935 Lot 136 (reproduced). As well as another pair, Christie's sale July 10, 2014, former Oakley Hall collection in 1919, then Galerie Aveline. Bibliography: W. M.
