Large tripod pedestal table in chased and gilded bronze, the curved uprights with piaster friezes topped by rams' heads with rings and terminating in leafy sabots held by a concave strut supporting a pine cone. Thick top in Alsace green porphyry. Early 19th century Fortunately discovered in 1768, the marble deposits of the Vosges marble deposits were soon exploited by royal factories, such as Remiremont, to produce granite, also known as green or ashy porphyry, or green serpentine; the stones cut in this way were then sold in Paris through Magasin ou Dépôt des Ouvrages en roches, comprising granite, granitelle, jasper, serpentine and porphyry. Provenance: Former Giuseppe Rossi collection sold in London at Sotheby's, March 10, 11 and 12, 1999.
