Athenian planter in chased, gilded bronze and painted sheet metal, the neck with a post motif, the uprights surmounted by a female mask, joined by ropes and finished with claws. Each foot monogrammed " C" on the reverse. Height 88.5 cm - Diam. 43 cm Louis XVI style, 19th century Height 90 cm - Diam. 42 cm This elegant jardinière perfectly illustrates the exuberance of the decorative arts during the Second Empire. A planter identical to ours, signed by Henri Picard, was sold at Christie's New York, October 22, 2010, lot 473 ($ 56,250). A pair in chased and patinated bronze attributed to Henri Picard, the legs signed 2571R and 2572R on the reverse, was sold at Christie's London, July 19, 2012, lot 303 and more recently, Christie's London, April 18, 2023, lot 10. Another pair, unattributed, from the M&N Uzal collection, sold at Sotheby's London, October 28, 2009, lot 52. A final example, said to be from the Louis XVI period and attributed to Gouthière, was in the former collection of Madame Louis Burat
