Pétaca leather travel trunk with incised decoration of straps forming geometric ornamentation; interior also lined with leather. North America, New Mexico, between 1770 and 1820 H. 37 cm - W. 100 cm - D. 43.5 cm (one handle missing, the other damaged) These New Mexican chests were made with leather overlays whose craftsmanship and decorative inspiration came from the Aztec Indians of Mexico.
