Rare small resin vestry cabinet with two carved doors, decor - Lot 43
Rare small resin vestry cabinet with two carved doors, decorated with armorial shields. Northern Italy or Spain late 15th century H. 94.5 cm - W. 95.5 cm - D. 58 cm (wormholes and restorations) Two shields are carved on the doors. One is a stylized representation of the five wounds of Christ. The other is rather enigmatic: a cross surmounts a small structure that could be a fountain or an altar. The Confrérie des Cinq-Plaies was widespread in many French towns. This small piece of furniture was undoubtedly used by such a brotherhood.
